THE KLANG LAB FOR SYNTHETIC BIOCHEMISTRY
Our newly established lab for Synthetic Biochemistry at the Technical University Munich, Department of Chemistry, is conducting research in the interdisciplinary area of Chemical Biology, applying concepts from organic chemistry to develop new chemical tools for the investigation of biological problems.
We are especially excited about developing and extending new tools - so to say with the rational approach of an organic synthetic chemist - to study and manipulate complex biological processes. We do this by an approach dubbed genetic code expansion.
Research focuses on the targeted chemical synthesis of new artificial biomolecules (amino acids, proteins, nucleotides, oligonucleotides) tailored to investigate and manipulate complex cellular processes in in vitro and in vivo biological systems.
